SUN Pictures buys Endhiran - It's confirmed!!

When some of my friends, hinted me about this news this morning, i was skeptical. I said that i would enquire with proper sources and then will tell the exact happening.

Later this evening i got a solid news from my source that Superstar, Shankar and Kalanidhi Maran met this noon at latter's Boat Club residence and signed the agreement.

As per agreement, SUN TV will take care of the production of Endhiran and had settled Ayngaran their dues completely. (As per reports the amount of transaction was said to be Rs.100 crores including the amount Ayngaran spent so far!!)

The complete details of the happening and reasons will be available tomorrow.

As per me, it is a wise decision of Superstar as he once again strikes a bunch of mangoes in a single shot.

Herewith i present the Economic Times article from Bangalore edition, which came earlier this morning.

Scoop: Sun News scroll says that Endhiran will be produced by SUN Picture.

Sun Pictures set to snap up India’s costliest flick, Robot

Economic Times 17/12/2008

BUOYED by its initial success in movie production, the Maransowned Sun Pictures has bought out the production rights for the costliest Indian movie to date, Robot, starring Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai.The sci-fi movie, to be directed by Shankar, with a whopping Rs 100 crore-plus budget, was supposed to have been produced by London-based Ayngaran International, in which Kishore Lullaowned Eros has a controlling stake.

But sources close to the development said owing to financial troubles, Ayngaran is transferring all the production costs of the movie to Sun Pictures.

Officials at Ayngaran and Sun Pictures could not be reached for comment or further details. But sources involved in the deal said that a formal agreement will be signed on Wednesday and the total value of the deal could cross Rs 100 crore.

If the agreement goes through, this will be the second such bailout for the recently floated Sun Pictures. It acquired the distribution rights for its maiden film Kadhalil Vizhunden from Atlantic Cinemas. Sun Pictures infused life into the movie and made it a runaway success by actively marketing it on Sun Network’s TV and radio media.
A similar positive climax awaits Robot, which is riding on huge dollops of money and hype. After the Rajini-starrer ‘Sivaji, The Boss’ created waves as the most expensive movie at Rs 80 crore, the Rajini-Rai starrer ‘Robot’ became the next big thing in film circles.

It also had a touch of drama to it because Shahrukh Khan was initially supposed to act in the movie and coproduce it through his company. But that plan did not go through reportedly due to creative differences.
