தலைவர் என்ன தான் தன் பிறந்த நாளை கொண்டாட வேண்டாம் என்று சொன்னாலும், ரசிகர்கள் கொண்டாடி தள்ளிவிட்டார்கள். ஒரே வித்தியாசம் - இந்த முறை சமூக ரீதியிலான பல நலப்பணிகள் செய்து பிறந்த நாளை கொண்டாடியுள்ளனர்.
ரத்த தானம், அன்ன தானம், கோயில்களில் சிறப்பு வழிபாடு, அர்ச்சனை என்று பெரும்பாலான ரசிகர்கள் கொண்டாடியிருப்பதாக பல்வேறு மாவட்டங்களிலிருந்து நமக்கு தகவல்கள் வந்துகொண்டிருக்கின்றன.

It was the 58th birthday of Superstar Rajinikanth. Though the star has banned any form of cele- brations due to the on going Sri Lankan crisis, his zillions of fans couldn’t be stopped from cele- brating the occassion Fans still found a way to make their day special; by feeding people, giving out free uniforms and school books.
IN the always-packed T Nagar bus depot junction, zealous fans of the T Nagar wing of Rajinikanth Rasigargal Narpani Mandram had a banner erected ‘Naalaiye Tamilagame’, referring to Rajinikanth wishing him for his birthday . ‘Naalaiye Tamilagame was actually in Hyderabad then, but that was no reason to bring down loud shrills of ‘Vaazhgai Superstar’ in the road junction, where a young lad, perhaps still in his teens, ceremoniously downed milk packet after another at Rajini’s cutout.
The Superstar’s fans couldn’t meet their thalaivar on his 58th birthday . So what, their almost-religious fanaticism to the matinee demigod Rajinikanth pushed them to distribute sweets and chocolates to all other devotees at the Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam Temple. In fact, packets of the prasadam were reserved to be delivered at his home later during the day . The actor had also banned grand celebrations on his birthday because of the ongoing ethnic crisis in Sri Lanka. However, the zillions of fans still found a way to make their day special: by feeding people, giving out free uniforms and school books.
Every devotee at the temple wore a quizzical look, as he was offered Parry Caramilk toffees inside the temple, but one small sentence ‘Thalaivar’s birthday innikku’ seemed reason enough for them to accept the offering, with a simper. The chocolate distribution was followed by an equally generous giving away of Sakkarapon gal to mark the actor’s birthday .
It was a hectic day for the actor’s fans, who actually claimed that they were refraining from grand celebrations! The day began early with abishekams and annadhanams in many venues, including Ilankaaliyamman Temple (Saidapet), KK nagar bus stand and the T Nagar anna dhanam. Elsewhere in the city, big posters announced the success of thalai’s success, following 50 days of Aegan, and his equally-zealous fans too had a thing or two up their sleeve.
But with Rajini having advised things to be at a low key, and the actor not even being in Chennai, celebrations should have been very restrained. But fans still made their presence felt, and the media, especially radio channels, celebrated his birthday, playing track after another of his songs. In fact, most programmes in the morning slot had questions relating to the actor, like ‘Who is the Superstar of your life? How will you wish the Superstar using his own style, etc. Rajinikanth wanted things restrained, but his entry into year 59 is still big news on newspapers, channels and websites. That’s what we call Rajini magic!
