Special scoop: Superstar & Kuselan under a record insurance coverage!

I came to know about this news last week. Ever since that, I have been enquiring about this from all possible sources to give you a detailed report. Happy to present our blog readers first. I am not sure whether this news has appeared in any other sources. Hope here afterwards it will.

For the past several years, Superstar’s movies have been playing as trend setters for Tamil Cinema. Nobody could deny that, it is only because of Rajini’s movies, Tamil cinema which was riding horse in a pot is now flying sky high. When there was nobody to dare experiments in movie making or marketing or aggressive promotion, only it was the producers of Superstar’s movies came forward for any such experiments since SUPERSTAR is along with them for support.

Chandramukhi and Sivaji show the path of prosperity

Superstar’s previous block busters Chandramukhi and Sivaji showed Tamil cinema, the lucrative Tamil market spread across the globe. It also showed various avenues of income to the producers including release strategy, dubbing of the movie in other states and other countries. Now others are following in that path. So, they should be first thankful to Superstar and his movies.

Kuselan under insurance coverage

In the continuation of trend setting, Superstar and the crew of Kuselan have been insured for several crores of rupees. This insurance coverage strictly follows all of necessary rules and regulations framed by union government.

Rs.30 crores for Superstar alone

Superstar and his shooting incidents have been insured for Rs.30 crores underthis coverage. I think this is the first time in India where an actor gets such an insurance coverage. The total film with other cast and crew has been insured for more than 60 crores. (Superstar’s share alone contributes half of this.) They say just because of Superstar's presence the insurance pack has been undertaken at such an exorbitant rate.

Apart from Superstar, prominent actors including Nayantara, Meena and Pasupathy too have been insured. And guess what, hundreds of technicians of the film crew too have been covered under the policy. I think this is the first time in Indian cinema history where shooting incidents have been insured. (Previously actors would have been insured for some other films)

Special rules and regulations

Since this is a historical move in insurance history, special rules & regulation have been created with the permission of government and insurance experts and two major insurance companies play the key role. Reports say Oriental Insurance Company is one of the insurer and am in dark about the other insurance company. Reports say more than Rs.7.5 lakhs have been paid as premium so far from Kuselan producers for this.

Benefit to our Economy

Since the risk and amount involved is much higher, the insurance company has entered an agreement with some foreign insurance firms. In case of compensation, this would bring considerable amount foreign exchange too which will benefit our sinking economy.

Ok. What’s the advantage?

You may ask what the use is. It has tones of advantage. You know that cinematographer Aravind Krishna has been hospitalized because of a freak accident in Kuselan shooting. Just guess what would happen if something like that occurs to other prominent technicians and stars and they are given rest for a week? The entire schedule would disrupt which would result in financial loss for producers. In that case this policy would shield the producers.

Remember shooting-spot casualties of Sivaji?

A few stunt artistes were hospitalized that time because of Sivaji shooting mishaps. To prevent any such incidents and safeguard the concerned technicians this policy has been undertaken. (they say for Sivaji too there was such a insurance scheme. But i couldn't able to verify it)

Kollywood going gaga

Kollywood is going much gaga about this since such schemes will protect the interests of producers. It will encourage the film producing more as the policy shields the producers from losses mounting because of disrupt in schedule, natural calamity, spoilage of sets due to rain and other external factors including other common mishaps of film shooting.

Robot too…

Insiders say that Superstar’s next mega project Robot too will be brought under such a power packed insurance scheme, keeping in mind earlier experiences.

It is a very good sign to see that Tamil cinema, turning into a corporate mode of movie production.

Note: The Udumalaipet shooting spot images above has been given by my friend Boopal from Coimbatore. He was the one who gave me the stills very first to upload in my blog.
