Robot tidings: Shankar busy hunting locations for Robot
Nostalgia: When Superstar returned the money....
Admitting failure
He admitted that the movie didn't perform well and he's ready to renounce every name and fame he earned over 27 years if they were denied to him just because of this single movie's debacle. I bet you that only our Superstar has such guts to admit failure.
Accepting failure is the most courageous act of a man.
I have marked the important points in green for a better understanding. But read it completely. Many infos spilled in the news report.
Special pre-release shows held to get honest reviews...But..?
From the article, it was clear that Superstar held special shows to many persons who were from various walks of life. But nobody opened up their heart and spoke the truth and they failed to give their correct reviews of the film. From the article, it is clearly understood that the movie's budget was increased because of the hype get generated.
When the theatre owners getting the money back, those who tasted profits too joined the queue and received the money. But Superstar didn't mind that.
Note: For me, only a few movies, over the years have crossed or matched Baba's collection of Rs.25 crores. Bcos, Rajini's failure film collections = others' super hit collections.
Just tell me, after 2002 how many movies crossed Rs.25 crores collection? (Baba was produced at an approximate cost of Rs.6 crores)

'Superstar in CBSE book' turns top news in media!
I wish to share you some minor disappointments I got while circulating this news to media. (Nothing is easy. Isn’t it?) Please take this in the sense of heart speak. Not more than that.
Not ordinary news
When I first gave this news to a paper they downplayed it and published it without knowing its importance. I stressed them that the news is not ordinary news and it will surely make waves in coming days.
The next day I contacted some other dailies and told them about the news and also sent mail to them. Alas, they didn’t show interest. I reminded a quote: "We never realize the value of something that comes easily to us."
Here I would like to confess that it’s very tough and embarrassing to deal with media people and journos. Sometimes you have to collate your prestige! I have done so even with my friends who are there!!
Initial ignorance
Apart from dailies I forwarded the news to some portals with a short write up. It worked out well. The next day it started appearing in websites and a website which initially ignored the news later published it.
Hot in FM channels too...
Why, even some FM channels including Big FM today interacted with its listeners over this and asked them, like Superstar in CBSE what achievement they would love to embrace in future and in which book they would love to read it....Amazing isn't it?
Some English papers they themselves sniffed the news and published it. Grt.
Sify comes out with moral of the story
Later this noon, i saw the article in sify too. Wow...its very nice to see the article in sify. As usual sify has hit the nail. I like the way sify presents the news with simple but compact write-up without beating around the bush. In the article it has said that the moral of the story is: Rajini has not forgotten his old friends.
http://sify.com/movies/tamil/fullstory.php?id=14684404
Now finally the news has appeared in today Daily Thanthi and The Hindu.
The Hindu, chumma sollakoodathu, fanstastic coverage with vital inputs from top guns associated with the book. Please read it fully without skipping.
Those who were reluctant to publish the news initially would feel very much now. But ignoring the bitter side, next time too I will pass them any important news like this.
Why?
Remember the quote you saw in the auto's canvas in recent “MGR & Superstar” article in the blog?

The wrapper of the OUP book that contains a chapter on actor Rajinikanth.
CHENNAI: English textbooks may have had lessons on grammar, some poetry, essays and stories. Now, an English textbook brought out by the Oxford University Press for class VI students has a superstar component, too.
Come June, class VI students going to schools opting for this textbook will learn about actor Rajinikanth, his life, and how he grew to become one of the top actors in the country.
The textbook is part of the publishing house’s ‘New! Learning To Communicate’ (NLTC) series, a revised edition of the ‘Learning to Communicate’ series.
When the author Paul Gunashekar suggested featuring Rajinikant in this book, the publishers endorsed the idea and introduced it in the revised edition.
Managing Director of Oxford University Press, Manzar Khan says: “We have chosen to feature Rajinikant in the NLTC Course Book 6, aimed at Indian students in the age group of 12 years. Rajinikant’s achievement of superstardom from absolute humble beginnings makes him a pan Indian icon that can inspire children across the country.”
Speaking on the content, he adds: “The story of his friendship with the bus driver Bahadur and the latter’s noble sacrifices add a touching appeal to this biographical tale.”
Chinmaya Vidyalaya is one of the city schools which has opted for this series of textbooks. Principal of the school’s Chinmaya Nagar branch P. Vijayalakshmi says: “We will be using the book. However, since I am yet to read the lesson, I will not be able to comment on it.”
While it is still early to find out how students would respond while reading about ‘The Boss,’ fans of the actor are clearly thrilled. Says Shravan Ramnath, a college-going student and a hardcore fan: “How I wish we had this chapter while we were in school. I would have scored really high in the English paper.”
High school student S. Aparna also says she would have really liked to read about the actor. “In fact, I’ve been waiting to read his biography that was launched recently. Success stories of people from modest backgrounds finally making it big are always fascinating to read.”

You can always see a Rajini related series (thodar) in any magazine at a given time. Rajini series act as a booster of sales for these magazines.
Just now SP Muthuraman finished his series on Superstar in Kalki magazine. Now Rani (Thanthi Group) has started a series. Unlike Kalki series, which was bit boring this new series from Rani seems to be quite good and interesting.
A roaring start
The first issue of the series has the market by 27th of this month and it didn’t disappoint the buyers. It’s indeed a thundering start as said in posters and promos.
In the first week, they have covered about Superstar’s speech at Raghavendra Mandapam inauguration where he revealed that his parents belong to Tamil Nadu alone. His father Ranoji Rao Gaekwad was born in Krishnagiri and his mother Ram Bai was born in Naachikuppam in Dharmapuri district. Ranoji Rao migrated to
What a surprise fact I read in the magazine is Superstar’s dearest friend Raj Bahadur too is a Tamilian.
(Attached pic of Raghavendra Mandapam inauguration is from my source)
I recommend friends who are residing in Tamil Nadu can buy the magazine. It’s surely a treasure to be secured. The magazine hits the stands each Tuesday. The first issue is in stands now.
For others who are out of Tamil Nadu: If I come across anything interesting in the series, which surely need to be shared with you, I will brief that.

Media's coverage on Rajini in CBSE School Book
So far Maalai Malar, Greatandhra.com, Indiaglitz.com and New Indian Express have come up with the news. Thanks to them for publishing it. Apart from this, a few TV channels are working out to present the news. Let's wait and see.
And special thanks to Indian Express for today's neat coverage. Don't miss Oxford University Press Managing Director's bites on Superstar at the end of the news. (Wow....well said and superb idea by the author to get inputs from him. Neatly written!!)
How's the write-up in below Great Andhra news? (Bcos, its mine...ha...ha..!!)

As leader, so subjects! Fans on Rajini's steps!!
http://onlysuperstar.blogspot.com/2008/05/buttermilk-booth-service-vs-publicity.html
As leader, so will be his subjects. Right?
Just have a look of yesterday's Maalai Malar news given below, which says that Rajini fans have set up a mobile buttermilk booth for people who are suffering from scorching mercury.
Maalai Malar News:
Rajini fans distribute thousands of litres buttermilk in mobile booth to people
Superstar Rajini has set up a free buttermilk booth at his Raghavendra Mandapam for public in this summer. (for the past 5 years this is being conducted) People get advantage of this and enjoy the spicy buttermilk distributed by Raghavendra Mandapam staff.
Fans too have set up such booths all across the state and in many parts of Chennai. (Double click on the image below to ZOOM and read the text)
One such fans MKS Sekar from Ambattur - has gone one step ahead in this social service and is distributing thousands of litres of buttermilk from a van. He went along with the mobile buttermilk booth to different parts of the metro with other Rajini fans and distributed to people. For a single day they distributed 8000 litres of Buttermilk and 10000 soft drink packets. We are proud of you Mr.Sekar. Kudos to you!!
The drink was distributed in Poonamallee High Road, 100 feet Road and other areas. Nolambur Police Inspector John Rose and JJ Nagar Inspector of Police Durai Dharmalingam flagged off the van and inaugurated the mobile booth. A Rajini banner was tied up in the van.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hereafter i request some sects of media, to carry such news rather than Rajini fans' Paalabishekams and aarathis. I ask media to encourage these fans to do more such social activities which will be of great use to people. Because this is media's responsibility - responsibility for a social change.

"People always cast their votes out of emotion, anger or sympathy" - Rajini
I have included some pics to make the interview to look more interesting. Hope you like it! Don't miss to scroll the blog even if you have read Tamil version!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: There are lot of rumours regarding "Jaggubhai". People are debating - Will it start? Will it be postponed? - What's exactly happening?
A: We were supposed to start in July. But, till Aug 15 (2004) people say that it is a "Soonya Madham". (inauspicious). After Aug 15 we will start it immediately.
Q: In the still published during its announcement your get-up resembles Osama-Bin-Laden. A rifle by your side, "kumkum" tilak on your forehead, "Rudraksham" in your neck. What do they convey?
A: To many people Jaggubhai appears to be an urgent announcement. But, that's not true. That is a story which has been in my mind since 20 years. I have heard many stories for my next film, but none of them could satisfy me. I then narrated the story in my mind to Ravikumar. He said "Its good. We can do this." The picture you are referring is very significant to the movie. When you see the movie you will understand that.
Q: Who is the heroine?
A: We are talking to Aishwarya Rai. The heroine role in this film is not as in other movies. In this story, the heroine's role is very important. This role has similar importance as Neelambari's role in Padayappa. Actually, Padayappa's Neelambari should have been portrayed by Aishwarya Rai herself, but was not possible. One of her English films got postponed ... probably she will do it.
Q: Many commented that the Neelambari role was characterised based CM Jayalalitha. Is there something similar kind of politics ... ?
A: Nothing like that. Politics was never there. But, there is that style, that mannerism, that speed ...
Q: Jaggubhai's ad-phrase - “God, save me from my friends, my enemies I can deal with myself!” What does this mean?
A: (laughs) Even that's from the story itself ... at one stage the hero feels that his friends have done this to him. Not just in politics, in cinema, even friends from general life hurt us sometimes isn't it? They way they behave ... doesn't these affect you? That's what this statement conveys.
Friends are more important than mother, father and guru. If they are not good, nothing else will be good. Aren't bad habits cultivated from friends? Selecting your friends is more important than selecting your spouse.
Q: Kalaignar, people who are with him - can we categorise them as "friends" ?
A: Ha .. ha .. ha .. (a small silence after the laugh). Kalaignar is a man of very high stature. Everyone knows that he is a friend ... I am not keen on telling other names.
Q: Did you talk to Kalaignar after the elections?
A: No. I have congratulated all those who got ministries. Isn't it a civilised custom to congratulate the winners? But, that does not mean we should talk ill of those who lost. Can we go to those questions without politics?
Q: Before you acquired the Superstar image we could see a different Rajini in various films. But, later we could see only Superstar formula films. After Baba, now in recent times, people like Bala, Dharani, Selvaraghavan, Gautham are creating a new trend. Will your forthcoming film take all these into consideration?
A: When there is certain expectations from me, I can't change them. For technical excellence we are definitely using good technicians. We always maintain a good standard. But, people expect hero and heroism from me. Isn't it? So, I can't come out of that track. This is the reason for me not doing many films. Now, I don't have to do anything for money or fame. By God's grace I have got them everything in plenty. I am not sure if people will like if I do a different kind of film ... the investment is also high ... and so I am slightly keeping myself away. (laughs).
Q: Producers, distributors, theatre owners - all of them agree wholeheartedly on one thing. "Next to MGR, only Rajini films are pouring profits". MGR had a political vision. In your films too many scenes, dialogues, punch dialogues have created a kind of expectation about you in the minds of people. But, why is it that you have not entered politics directly?
A: I wanted to clear this issue from a long time. This is one opportunity. (seriously). I will tell you a example .. "I don't know when will I come, how will I come. But, I will come at the appointed time." - this is a dialogue from 'Muthu'. In this, did I say that I will come to politics? Even when this was scripted I asked whether this was required .. people said "let it be there". Achachacho .. My God!! After the release, what all did the media write ... Will he come? Won't he come? What is that he is telling? ... how many guesses like these! Sir, I am not yet convinced with politics. I haven't even dreamt of many things that have occurred in my life. But, they have happened. Really I do not know what is going to happen tomorrow. Then, how can I tell anything decisively now? Nothing is in my hand. My strength is my fearlessness. I haven't feared of anything or anybody. I don't have to speak anything with the intention of scaring anyone. I haven't feared when I did not have a single penny in my pocket. Now, when I have crores will I fear for anything? (laughs heartily)
Q: Then, in future if the circumstances are created, can we consider that you might enter politics?
A: I don't know! Can you predict what will happen in next 2 years? (Points to the Pooja room) Whatever anyone thinks, its more important for the God to think. I am a strong believer of destiny. I just proceed in my life accepting whatever comes in my way.
Q: You are the one who popularised "linking of rivers". What is its state now?
A: Its regrettable that the politicians do not have a foresight in this project. Only statesmen will have a long-vision, not politicians. KS Rao has spoken on this project many years ago. If this was started then itself, will it not have been complete by now? Leave it. Even if we start now, hey, let it take even 40 years to complete, will not our future generation benefit from this? Money is not a problem at all ... then shouldn't this be started? What will happen by only me speaking on this project? Henceforth I will not speak on this project ... only if everyone seriously think on this project there will be progress. Even Kalaignar has spoken on this ... I was even surprised by this. The night, previous to the day I spoke on this project in a press meet, he too has spoken on this project. Everyone should speak ... act. The car ('thaer' in Tamil) moves only if all the people pull, isn't it? If this fructifies, how many people will have employment, how many industries will prosper? How many people will benefit! ... How important this work is!
Q: People say that many places will be submerged if the rivers are linked ... ?
A: For 100 people to benefit difficulties will befall on 10 people. Do you know the significance of "Bhoomi Pooja" (ground breaking ritual)? Many insects, worms and other living beings are living in the place where we are to construct a house and lead our life. "Bhoomi Pooja" is a ritual of asking their forgiveness. Vajpayee is very interested in this project. He has spoken open-heartedly on this with me.
Q: "My vote is for BJP" - what is the reason behind this public announcement?
A: I have already spoken on this clearly. Though many politicians and political parties have spoken about linking the rivers, I think that only BJP is serious about implementing it. Since I have contacts with them on this, I felt it possible to contact them personally and stress upon this project. That's all. Else, if I wish to enter politics I will enter directly and not pointing towards others.
Q: Your take on clash with Dr. Ramadoss?
A: This election was swept by a massive wave. Not just a man, but even a banyan tree would have been washed away with it. With regards to Dr. Ramadoss we just showed our protest. A protest in a democratic way. I am not 'man' if I don't speak even after seeing the way they attacked my fans in Madurai. The people who are asking now "why I spoke?" will also have asked "Why I did not speak?" had I not spoken.
Q: Everyone knows PMK's opposition to Baba. Now that they have won in all the 6 constituencies, if their opposition to your Jaggubhai is more furious?
A: Fine. There will be a election in 2006. We will be more strong in our protest against them. (A hearty laugh). Major leaders like Kamaraj have faced defeat. When compared to them, people like Rajinikanth are nothing. What is election? Pass or Fail - that's all. Congratulations to those who have passed. I don't think that they will oppose Jagghubhai. They said that me smoking cigarette on screen is a problem. What can he do in this? 1000 cinema tickets are equivalent to 1 vote. He is not foolish to lose many such votes. People are watching. I don't think that the cinema industry will also be silent for long. Then we anyways have the courts of justice. (Again a hearty laugh)
Q: Do you think that the clash between you and Ramadoss will continue?
A: Kalaignar has helped a lot in this issue. The clash between me and Ramadoss could have gone in a different way. During and after the elections if it has been peaceful on both the sides, the reason behind that is Kalaignar. Both - me and Dr. Ramadoss - should thank him for that.
Q: What is your take on this election result?
A: People in our country (Rajini might have meant only TN. But I have interpreted for the entire country) always cast their vote in either anger or emotionally or in sympathy. We cannot infer that decision to be right always. But, one thing is pretty clear - people are watching everything silently. They are saying that they will vent their anger at the right time.
Q: Did you get an invite for Stalin's daughter's wedding?
A: I received the invite. But, not in a formal way. Politics is different from such private function. I could have been invited in a better way.
Q: DMK, ADMK - people are definitely fed-up with the option of only these two. The third place is vacant from long. Will you fill this in future?
A: (Laughs) You have come back to the same question. I have already told ... when the owner called God orders, this worker has to do it. Nothing is in my hands .. its there!! (pointing towards Swamy Raghavendra's photo...)
Above pic is huge portrait of Raghvendra Swami found inside Superstar's Raghavendra Mandapam.

Superstar on river linking, entering politics, election fiasco – Interview Part II
Even Kamarajar was defeated...
Thalaivar says that if he wishes enter politics, it would be straight and he won’t point anybody to vote. Moreover, regarding the defeat in 6 constituencies he has said that even Kamarajar has been defeated and he is nothing before that legend.
It seems that he was not let down by the debacle. With his maturity, he has overcome one of the most difficult phases in life.
1000 cinema tickets = 1 vote
Still I couldn’t understand one thing in this interview. He has said that 1000 cinema tickets = 1 vote. What’s the meaning of this? Anybody could throw light into this? Really I couldn’t understand this.
Hope you friends like to see this interview in my blog… You should keep in mind, it is impossible to score sixer in each and every posts. Anyway, i will try to maintain the tempo of this blog with authentic and true updates within my reach and knowledge as time permits.
Give me your valuable feedback….if I fail to meet your expecations, will try to correct in future posts. This is your blog, not mine. Thank you.
Rajini on dealing with friends & foes – An interview from crucial time in past!!
Fans were very eager that time to know what’s the reaction of Superstar regarding the defeat and election results. And also there’s lots of confusions prevailed amidst fans regarding Jaggubhai because of stoic silence over the project ever since the paper ad was given.
Kumudam team at that time met Superstar at his residence and obtained a wonderful interview from the legend. Some…or….many of you would have read it that time. But you might have forgotten. Any way just a recollection from past.
You should keep in mind that Chandramukhi was not planned that time. Still Jaggubhai was in discussion stage. In one question, Superstar answers that, “Who knows what would happen for next 2 years!!” – How right the answer is!!!!
In this interview, Superstar didn’t beat around the bush and he answered swiftly and straightly each and every questions.
He has answered almost all questions that were in the mind of people and fans that time. Many of his answers apply to current situation and political scenario too.
Superstar gave nod for this interview to Kumdam as he keeps huge respect with the Kumudam group. (He even gave another interview to Kumudam post-Chandramukhi to its editor Jawahar Pazhaniappan!)
When many magazines tried to know what’s Superstar’s opinion regarding certain hot issues, he chose Kumudam to answer the issues. But Kumudam, later and over the years failed to maintain the respect that Superstar kept with them and turned as a cheap magazine which fills pages just for a furore.
Nandri Ketta Ulagamada…!!!
Note1: I have presented the half of the interview herewith. Tomorrow or day after tomorrow you would get the balance pages. I am yet to scan them. Kindly excuse me.
Note2: If somebody could provide the translation of this interview for the benefit of those who can’t read Tamil, I would be really grateful.

The legend turns a lesson – Superstar in CBSE school book!!
Ever since I heard this news, I couldn’t resist myself and it was tough for me to pass time until I saw the book by last night.
A remarkable achievement
The moment I saw the book, I was awestruck. What a remarkable achievement of our thalaivar! If he manages to get a place in a school book that is read by kids all over the country, then what else he has to achieve?
A distinct honour
I think no other actor in
Surely a remarkable achievement!! Isn’t it?
And surely this would apply tons and tons of coals on those faces who take dig at thalaivar whenever there’s a little opportunity. But beyond their calculations, Superstar’s name and fame skyrockets to unimaginable heights each time.
Just wish to remind you a quote:
“Fame usually comes to those who are thinking about something else.”

Be Good; Do Good - The message of metal blocks!
It is none other than the diaz of Sivaji 175 days Shield Distribution ceremony which was held for Distributors and exhibitors of Sivaji in Raghavendra Mandapam. This event was conducted on the same date of Sivaji Silver Jubilee function (
Be Good; Do Good!
Did you see the slogan that has been placed in metal blocks in top (first picture)?
"Be Good; Do Good!" - What a great message in simple words!!
Several theatre owners, exhibitors, distributors, media partners and others associated with the film were given Silver Jubilee mementos. (Later in evening at the
Superstar was spotted in denim jeans with white shirt and black shoes. One of the nice getups of Superstar I have ever seen off screen.
Hundreds of theatre owners received the prestigious memento from the Superstar.
This news is a special because these Silver Jubilee Functions has become very rare in Tamil Cinema and mostly Superstar films alone used to celebrate this.
Just a question
Can u tell the name of any other Tamil film recently celebrated Silver Jubilee?
25 weeks of running has become a miracle nowadays for others!! But for Superstar, except Baba in recent times most of the films witnessed Silver Jubilee running.
For your close look, I have embedded a separate picture of the Sivaji mementos that were distributed to the distributors during the function.
Do tell me your valuable opinion about this post.
Note: LEGEND TURNS LESSON - An update of the year, which we shall cherish for ever to come tomorrow. Stay tuned....
Kuselan: Over to Kuttanad, Kerala ?
And next, the crew is likely to move to Kuttanad, Kerala where a duet involved Superstar and Nayantara is likely to be shot. The song and dance will be picturised in the beautiful backdrop of backwaters of Kuttanad featuring 100s of dancers.
Kuttanad is a famous shooting spot for Bollywood and Tollywood movies. The huge extension of paddy fields, coconut gardens and house boats giving a panoramic touch to picturisation. It spread across the districts of Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, and Kottayam.
Apart from shooting the film, the crew and the star cast enjoy the locale as a picnic for this summer with sumptuous cuisine of Kuttanad which comprise rice and fish. Exhausted technicians and stars relish on this very much.
Locations has already been selected and finalised in Kuttanad.
Meanwhile, some other sources say that the next destination of Kuselan team would be Ooty and not Kerala. Not sure about this. But once this duet is finished, Superstar’s portion for the movie will get over. By June first week this would have been finished and superstar is likely to dub for the movie after that. Sources say that the audio will be released by June 20 and some other sources claim that the date would be June 15.
Anyhow, Kuselan audio will hit the market by June and the film by July.
Meanwhile Superstar and Shankar are busy in travel arrangements for their

Yes, I sought Rajini’s call sheet to clear my financial problems – K Balachander
He narrated me and i couldn't resist myself in presenting it to you. As I told you a few weeks back, sometimes we find precious things in dustbin too. Treat this like that. I have might have missed a few things. Kindly excuse me.
- Sundar
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
K Balachander says in the interview…
Kuselan is proceeding much better than we expected. P Vasu has amended the script and it has shaped out more beautiful than original. P Vasu called me to play the role of a director in the movie. But I declined it since Rajini and others would feel uncomfortable if I was present at the spot. The natural course of the shooting would get disrupted. So i turned down that offer.
Reason for Rajini’s name and fame
If you ask what’s the reason for Rajini’s such tremendous name and fame, I would say it is purely because of him. He is very sincere to his profession and he makes sure that everything goes right in his films. Moreover, his piousness and spirituality stood as pillars for him during difficult times and maintained the balance within him. His consort Latha too was one of the reasons for his success. Why am telling this because, when Rajini was in troubled times, it was she who gave a moral support to him.
He never disagrees with me in any issues
I always keep a distance with him. I never pressurize him in anything except cinema. He has lots of respect with me and I should maintain that. The moment you spell my name to him, you can spot an instant reaction from him. When I say him something, he readily accepts it and never disagrees to it. But later he used to tell my daughter that he wishes to change something which I said. (Superstar never speaks anything against his mentor’s words before him)
No idea to unite Rajini and Kamal
I have no idea to unite Rajini and Kamal for a movie. That is impossible. If they jointly agree and come to me, I shall think about it. Even then, I won’t direct it. I would look for a director who is internationally acclaimed.
Rajini’s call sheet is the only solution to my financial problems
They say that I requested Rajini to do a film (Kuselan) for me to erase my problems. Yes. That’s true. Show me someone who don’t have problems? Even Kamal had lots of problem. Didn’t he face them? Cinema means always problem. I faced problems because of some mistakes and loss generated by some flop movies in recent past. I thought the only solution would be Rajini’s call sheet to Kavithalaya. Rajini too aware of my problems. Since he had not done any film for Kavithalaya after Muthu (1995) I asked him to do a film for me. So, he announced Kuselan for me. For that I feel very happy.
Note: Superstar has bailed out so many producers from financial problems in past. But nobody has told so frankly like KB. First time, KB sir has openly said that he sought Rajini’s call sheet to clear his financial crunch. Really great KB sir!!

Know the hands behind the transformation of Superstar into a Robot!!
The following news item from DNA India throws some light on the expert who will handle Superstar's Robot look. A good informative piece. - Sundar
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looking like a million bucks
Wednesday, May 21, 2008 23:59 IST DNA - After Hrs
Tamil superstar Rajnikanth is to don a series of new looks for his forthcoming mega sci-fi thriller Robot.
Reportedly, he will be going to Hollywood to try out novel prosthetic make-up styles, estimated to cost over three crores, for the Shankar-directed film.
According to sources Rajnikanth will be meeting veteran US make-up artist Michael R Jones. Incidentally, Michael did the make-up for Shankar’s film Indian that had Kamal Haasan in the lead. He has also done several Hollywood films like Tales from the Crypt, the Dolph Lundgren starrer Dark Angel and Ghost Busters. He was also the head make-up artist for the hit television show Star Trek.
“Shankar was very pleased with Michael’s work in Indian. He wants Robot to look extravagant Making a robot out of a man has never been attempted in any Indian film before and Shankar does not want anything to go wrong.”
Sources say Shankar will be accompanying the actor to finalise the series of ‘new looks’ for the multi-billion-rupee project.
Shankar’s earlier release Shivaji—The Boss had set the cash registers ringing.
A joint venture by Ayngaran International and Eros, Robot will be the second film in which Aishwarya Rai will be collaborating with Shankar, and her third in Tamil. Her first Jeans (1998), a Shankar directorial resulted in Hollywood noticing the actress after the film was nominated as India’s entry for the Academy Awards. Shankar’s movies have rewritten movie history twice on the issue of cost and number of prints. While Jeans was released in 1998 with a record 240 prints, Shivaji—The Boss (2007) is the most expensive release till date with around 400 prints shown on over 900 screens simultaneously.

Rajini fans conduct secret meeting; Pass resolutions requesting Rajini!!
This kind of happenings will be one of the important catalysts to change the history. But when it occurs it is given least importance.
The first meeting of Indian National Congress held in 1885 was attended by mere 72 persons. So, it is not that numbers count. But it is their aim that makes difference.
Dinamalar has covered this Rajini fans meeting chumma just like that as a tiny event without knowing about the impact it may create directly or indirectly in Tamil Nadu politics. Keep this blog page in your mail box for future reference. Faith moves even mountains!!
Over to Dinamalar
Rajini fans from around 30 districts assembled together at a hotel in Villupuram and conducted secret meeting and passed on several resolutions urging Rajini.
The fans instigated from other factors, came to this decision and conducted this meeting secretly. The meeting was organized under Tanjore Rajini fan clubs president Ganesan. It is reported that the meeting was very emotional and many fans poured their anguish over several issues and discussed further proceedings.
The core resolutions passed were:
2) Why it was so difficult to meet you?
3) Why keeping off from politics?
4) Will you plunge into active politics or not?
5) Is there any safety for us who are economically weak?
6) What happened to Sathyanarayana? Why he has been kept away from fan club activities?
7) Who will succeed Sathyanarayana as fan club president?
Sathy still there…..
Meanwhile, Sathy has not been removed from the post or his powers have not been reduced. Since Sathy underwent renal surgery, Superstar has asked him not to take too much strain and he would look after the fan club with the help of Murali and others. (Murali is close friend of Superstar who has been serving as incharge of Raghavendra Mandapam. He now looks after fans club related appointments of Superstar) But Sathy still has the control over fan clubs.
Just because of health reasons he has been instructed to stay away from fan club activities. But Sathy comes to Mandapam and looks after fan club activities whenever he finds time. Even in recent Hogenakkal fast he has been waiting since morning

Titbits4: KS Ravikumar's Jaggubhai condition & Kuselan a July release?
KS Ravikumar’s condition to Sarath Kumar!!
I think you all aware that next to
When
But reports say that KS Ravikumar has clearly said to Sarath that he won’t use the mannerisms he made for Superstar and only story and script will be used.
Good decision
Note1: Though Jaggubhai was dropped at post-discussion stage, Superstar paid hefty package as compensation to those all who concerned in the discussion of the abandoned project. This includes Ravikumar, Ramesh Khanna and others who spent their time for discussion and other things. Even AR Rahman was paid since he composed a song for Jaggubhai. Do you know which song is that? It is none other than the song “Aararai kodi paergalil oruvan” which was later used in SJ Surya’s Ah…Aah…(hmmm we missed a wonderful song!!!)
Note2: KS Ravikumar and Rajini are still good friends despite this abandonment and some other happenings. Superstar skipped Dasa audio launch just because of its producer and his attitude.
If you want a one word answer for this, it is: Wow!!
Just read the following news piece from yesterday's Deccan Chronicle.
//Soundarya Rajinikant will not only produce Billa 2, but will also direct it. She is apparently all set to wear the director’s hat for the very first time.
The decision was taken after the superstar’s daughter approached Vishnu Vardhan (who directed Billa ) to direct the sequel but when he asked for Rs 5 crores, she was little hesitant to take it further. Sources reveal that Vishnu’s explanation was that when Ajith can be paid a big amount of Rs 10 crore for the film, shouldn’t he deserve at least half of it? Soundarya quickly changed her mind and decided to direct the film herself. After all, the pretty lady is already making the mega animated flick Sultan the Warrior with her dad Rajinikant in the lead. According to insiders Soundarya was so gung-ho about setting out on directing this film that she decided to show the rushes of her animated film Sultan … to Ajith. Pleased by the approach and narration, Ajith is believed to have immediately given his nod to work with her. The project is likely to take off sometime in June next year, once Ajith finishes his forthcoming films Aegan and Soundarya finishes Sultan.//
If a top actor like Ajith
Initially many raised questions about the quality of graphics and other technical aspects regarding Sultan. No worry mates…the film is getting ready in international standards and it will rock the box-office of multiplexes.
Kuselan, a July release?
Two dailies today have said that Kuselan will be a July release. Fans are not worrying about its release date or month and they are ready to embrace it whenever it releases. But some sect of fans feel that it should not release in August as they feel that August is not lucky for us. But do you know apart from Baba some other films too released in August and turned out as hits. Netrikann, Mullum Malarum, Apoorva Raagangal, Johhny and few other movies released in August and became successful.
Meanwhile, a Kollywood buzz says that the film would hit the theatres in July third week for sure.
Over to Thanthi and Times of India.
Kuselan set for July release - Chennai Times
If reports are to be believed, the much anticipated Rajinikanth film Kuselan, a remake of the Malayalam hit Katha Parayumpol, will be released this July.
Directed by P Vasu, the movie produced by Kavithalaya Films, features Rajinikanth in the role of the actor himself. Pasupathy plays the protagonist in the film. Vadivelu, Meena, Nayanthara, Sneha, Prabhu, among others form part of the cast. G V Prakash has scored the music and almost all songs have been shot including one in which Rajinikanth appears in 20 different get-ups. The climax sequences were recently shot in Udumalaipet.
Note1: Am collecting infos on Kuselan songs and audio release little by little. Just wait for a few days. I will try to present a separate post on that - with some new infos if possible.
Note2: Also wish to write a separate post on recently launched Chennai edition of 'Times of India'. It is a biggg disappointment. Those who are following it, know that. Will soon come up with that post.
